Invitation to create a work for the 70th anniversary of Indian independence.
multi-channel sound, video projection, light projection, ice, turmeric
Binaural simulation of one layer of the installations acousmatic sound space (headphones required). This is an infinite composition using commercial tabla samples. I am interested in the emptying out of specificity that these new digitising process point us towards. I created a virtual space within which the samples orbit elliptically around a theoretical listener. In this installation a second layer intermittently broke the composition; I flew the sound of a 1970's Boing 707 taking off through the space. This was reference to the 'red eye' flight my farther had to take to attend to his Antyeshti responsibilities on the death of his farther. I installed a body weight of ice in one of the vaults to melt silently, to become water and then ultimately air. This is one of the ways that I bring together divergent temporalities in my work.
